Tattoo Removal

Strawberries

Tattoo removal is performed in a clean hygienic area using lasers that react to the ink in the tattoo and break it down into tiny fragments.

The broken down fragments are then absorbed by the body, mimicking the natural fading effect that time or sun would have.

Complete tattoo removal requires multiple treatment sessions typically spaced 6 weeks apart.

With each session some but not all of the ink is effectively fragmented The body will then remove the smallest fragments over the course of several weeks.

This results in a lightening of the tattoo over time. The remaining fragments are then targeted at the next session with a progressive lighting. The number of treatments and the spacing between sessions depend on a number of factors including the area treated, skin type, colours in the tattoo, layers and the patient’s own immune system.

A healthy patient will get the best results. Drink plenty of water to help your body flush the tiny fragments out of your body, 8 hours sleep and maintain a healthy diet.

Post Treatment

There maybe some slight swelling and pinpoint bleeding directly after your session. Swelling will go down within 24 hours. A crust will appear over the tattoo which sloughs off approximately 14 days post treatment. Some tattoo pigment may be found in this crust.

During the healing process you will be treating the area with antibiotic cream and non-occlusive dressing.

Fading of the tattoo will be noted during the next 6 to 8 weeks. Your follow up treatment will be tailored specifically to you and your tattoo depending on the clinical response observed.
